Spaces

The scientific meetings (round tables, conferences, workshops) will be hosted in the premises of the Municipality of Senigallia (Auditorium S. Rocco, Rotonda a Mare, Teatro la Fenice), courtesy of the municipality. The scientific aperitifs and invitations to listen to music and science may be hosted in a room at the Circolo La Fenice, as the president has agreed to make it available for this purpose. Pending the availability of their own premises, the members meeting and the meetings of the Board of Directors may also be held in a room at the Circolo La Fenice.

Round tables or seminars of interest to entrepreneurs in Senigallia will be hosted, subject to agreement with the president of the GIS, at the Hotel Raffaello.

When the annual Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Physics and AI Technologies for Complex Systems is launched, it could be hosted at Palazzo Gherardi.

Pending completion of the renovation work, the Master’s program could be hosted by an institute of higher education. If companies are willing to co-finance scholarships in agreement with the MUR, as has already been the case for PNRR funds, an Interuniversity Doctorate in Physics and AI Technologies for Complex Systems could be launched.

The LAB-ep2X laboratory capable of delivering low-energy X beams, high-energy X beams, electrons and protons, a genetics laboratory and a small data centre could be built through a public-private consortium following the example of ELETTRA and CRS4. The necessary space could be found in the Fornaci di S. Gaudenzio area of the former Italcementi.

Funding

In addition to the membership fees, an adequate amount of money will have to be found to deal with the planned activities and to guarantee administrative, communication and website management support.

Once the CSC has been registered in the RUNTS (Single National Register of the Third Sector), the centre will be able to participate in regional, national and European tenders in order to raise the necessary funds for its activities. In the meantime, an application has been submitted for pre-selection to the European IFAST2 call for proposals within the TIARA Consortium, run by CERN to complete the proton line in the LAB-ep2X device.

Precursor event 2024

On 28 March 2024, the conference Climate Change and Energy Transition, organised by Giorgio Turchetti in agreement with the director of the Alma Climate centre, Prof. Luca Lambertini https://centri.unibo.it/climate/it, took place in the Aula Magna of DIFA in Bologna. Sociological analysis

Sample survey in IIS Corinaldesi Padovano on computer skills modelled on the OECD Pisa survey. Planned for the school year 2025-26.

Medium-term projects

Environment

Real-time control of the territory, hinterland and coastline, with monitoring by terrestrial and marine drones and satellite data.

Land-based forecasting systems integrated with large-scale forecasting. Statistical analysis of extreme events. Catastrophic mitigation and intervention actions.

Dissemination of the most reliable climate change results on a global scale and on the ground.

Energy

Monitoring and forecasting primary energy and electricity consumption in northern Marche (provinces of AN and PU). Study for an energy community including the municipalities of the Marca Senone. Various scenarios based on renewable sources will be considered, with particular attention to the problem of seasonal storage, which can be solved using hydrogen, possibly combined with a nuclear battery.

Mobility

Twenty years ago, the ‘Galvani’ Interdepartmental Centre in Bologna, as part of an agreement with the municipality of Senigallia, carried out a mobility analysis based on data provided by radar and coils and accompanied it with a simulation using the MOBILIS agent model. Recently, the large amount of data provided by mobile telephony and increased computing power made it possible to extend this analysis to the region of Emilia Romagna, whose surface area and population are 200 and 100 times larger respectively than those of Senigallia. The data analysis combined with the model now allows accurate nowcasting and mitigation of criticalities, which can also be applied to our territory.

Health

For more than five years, Giorgio Turchetti and Massimo Placidi (for 30 years a researcher at CERN, for 10 years in Palo Alto at Lyncean Inc., where he put the first compact synchrotron light source into operation) have been developing a compact, flexible and reliable device for producing monochromatic, collimated and quasi-coherent X-rays.

(characteristics of synchrotron light). The final version of the device produces X-rays of low or high energy and alternating beams of electrons in rapid succession and thus usable for medical diagnostics and FLASH radiotherapy. The conceptual design of a fourth proton line, which can be realised at low cost, has been proposed to the EU’s TIARA consortium coordinated by CERN.

If the project is financed, the conceptual study of the Lab-ep2X device could be concluded within the next two years and be realised in Senigallia itself, through a public-private consortium

Education

The first initiative will consist of organizing an annual inter-university Master’s degree in Physics and AI technologies for Complex Systems. Admission will be open to students from the faculties of Science, Engineering, and Economics, as well as Medicine, if they are interested in new diagnostic and radiotherapy technologies. A semester of courses is planned to fill any educational gaps that may inevitably exist depending on the previous educational background of the Master’s degree.

Particular attention will be paid to the acquisition of both theoretical and practical skills for artificial learning based on generative neural networks. Finally, a three-month internship at a company and a three-month internship at a foreign university, preferably but not exclusively in the EU, UK, or US, are planned. Funding for scholarships could come from the Marche region and/or local businesses. If the initiative is successful, work could subsequently be done to set up a doctoral program.

Initiatives and services for members

Scientific Aperitifs

Each member will be able to participate, at the La Fenice Club or in other venues, in meetings in which scientific topics will be discussed, possibly proposed by the members. The discussion will be moderated by one of the members of the Board of Directors or the Technical Scientific Committee. Participants will be offered an aperitif.

Invitations to listening between music and science

Following the format successfully experimented in Rome by Giuseppe Sfligiotti, listening to classical music pieces will be proposed, preceded by a commentary by a musicologist. Listening will be followed by a conversation on the physics of sound and the mathematical structure of musical language led by a member or expert.

Newsletter

A report on one of the topics of interest to the SCC will be published on the SCC website on a monthly basis, also to curb fake-news.
